Warm Springs Foundation, Georgia

Miss Ruth Powell, RN, and my mother struck up a friendship after being first admitted. Although Miss Powell wasn't assigned as Mom's nurse, Mom said Miss Powell took "a shining" to her and was a good friend during Mom's surgeries and doctor visits from 1943 - 1948.

The Warm Springs Foundation grounds were laid out similar to a college campus. Large separate buildings, like halls at colleges, with connecting pathways making patient transportation easier. Cottages were available for some staff along with apartments for patients and relatives to stay when needed.

I found Miss Powell's obituary online. I wrote a letter to the family using the church address. I wrote about my mother's relationship with Miss Powell, and that I had a number of snapshots I could share. The daughter responded, gratefully accepting my pictures. She said she had only a couple of small photos of Miss Powell at Warm Springs. I was so happy to share the images below with the family.
